Second Annual Work Weekend

The board members and Executive Director will be joined by 11 LBAA members from various clubs next Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4, in Calgary.  Some of the work they hope to accomplish: organize the bowling events and calendar for 2017, discuss and set plans for junior bowlers across the province, review the website, advance our awards program and plan some athlete development and coaching sessions.


Thank you to Ed, Linda, Derek, Greg, Heather, Judy, Herman, Dave, Robert, Gary, and Jen for giving of your time on behalf of all members!


Also a thank you to the Edmonton Indoor Club for their generous donation to help cover most of the expenses for this work weekend.

Greg Wilson’s great season!

Greg Wilson earned his third national medal of the 2016 lawn bowl season at the Canadian Indoor Singles last week.  With strong play all week he took home the bronze medal winning two straight sets over Vince Mai, depending champion from last year.

Greg also took home a silver medal from the Canadian Championships held in Edmonton in mid August as the skip of the men’s fours team.  In early September he won a bronze medal at the Canadian Outdoor Singles Championships.

Well done and congratulations to Greg Wilson!

50/50 Raffle Ticket Winners

The LBAA Raffle Ticket draw was completed at the Living Stones Church in Red Deer, AB on Saturday, Oct. 22.  (AGLC License #435206)

Ticket 00655, Vera Eddy, won the $1,500 prize
Ticket 00002, Cathy Gervais, won the $750 prize
Ticket 00617, Noel Johnson, won the $250 prize.

AB Medalists at the Canadian Singles Championship

Three women and five men from Alberta competed last week at the 2016 Canadian Singles Championship in Vancouver and once again our Alberta players took home medals!!

Congratulations to Pat Bird with a Gold medal beating John Bjornson from MB, last year’s champion, with a terrific shot on the last end of the tie breaker!  Amazing game between two top Canadian Bowlers.

Joanna Cooper and Greg Wilson took home the bronze medals after a terrific week of bowling.  Congratulations to both of them.

Next in line for these medalists..Pat and Joanna are off to play in the North American Challenge in Vancouver at the end of September and Greg will compete in the Indoor Singles again in Vancouver the end of October.


AB Men’s Senior Triples Team are Golden!

Congratulations to Lyall Adams, Stan Nelson and Ken Olsvik on winning Gold in Halifax today!  They are the Canadian Senior Men’s Triple team Champions.

Club Coach Course in Edmonton

A Club Coach course is being planned for Wednesday evening, September 28 for three hours and Saturday, October 1 (all day).  Those interested in taking the course should register by sending an email to  Further information will be sent out once we have six registrants.

Please note that one should have the intention of teaching new bowlers and not take the course for personal skill development.  One will be a trained club coach once the course is completed.

Medalists for Mixed Pairs Championship

We started with 22 teams, dwindled down to 8 and then the four top teams played off for the medals.  Congratulations to Derek Dillon and Claire Day for winning Gold, Pat Bird and Heather Mackie on achieving the Silver, and Kevin Power and Gayell Slater on securing the bronze over Leon and Cathy Dallas.  Huge thanks to Glenda McPherson for doing a terrific job as drawmaster helping everything run so smoothly with the new format and to all the volunteers from Rotary Park that attended to all the bowlers and spectators and hosted a great tournament.

Medicine Hat Memorial Triples Tournament

The Medicine Hat Memorial Triples Tournament was a great success with 20 teams playing all day Saturday and half of Sunday.  A huge thank you to the volunteer crew from the Royal Lawn Bowling Club for helping ensure the event was so successful!  First and second winners were crowned in four different divisions with the team from Lethbridge of Robert & Esther Rodzinyak and Al McGarty winning the overall trophy again for the second year.  All the players also voted for who they felt was the most outstanding and supportive skip and the Ben Osterman Award was presented to Dolly Gouw!
